JFC: Templeport defeat Munterconnaught

Templeport and Munterconnaught kicked off the Cavan Junior Football Championship with a lively game in Kingspan Breffni Park last night.

Templeport opened the scoring with a point from Eoin Doonan and were 0-2 to 0-0 up after six minutes. Mark Hetherton opened the Munterconnaught account with a point on nine minutes. A goal from Munterconnaught's Stephen Sheridan put them 1-2 to 0-3 ahead after 13 minutes. After 24 minutes the sides were level bu Munterconnaught pulled away in the later stages of the first half to lead at half time on a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-6.

Templeport started the second half brighter with two points after 12 minutes, but after 2o minutes Munterconnaught were still ahead by three points. The game changer came a few minutes later when Templeport's Ben Kiernan scored a goal followed by a Sean Murphy point to have the team leading by 1-10 to 1-9. Templeport never relinquished this lead and finished the game winning 1-12 to 1-10.
