Cavan Gaels GFC 7th Golf Classic - a tremendous success

The seventh Cavan Gaels GFC Golf Classic held in Co. Cavan Golf Club on Friday 29th June, proved to be one of the most successful ones so far. Graced by exceptional weather, the classic provided some scintillating golf as evidenced by the exceptional scores which won the top prizes. The event was once again sponsored by Donal Keogan, Imperial Bar and Restaurant.
The winning team representing Johnny O'Hanlon was Edward O'Hanlon, Ruairi Dunne, Seamus Smith and Gary Sexton. They won a prize of a fourball at the famed K Golf Club in Kildare.
Second place went to Garret Fortune's team represented by Sean Galligan, Noel Fay, Dermot Carmichael and Paddy Murray. They are on their way to the Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran for a golfing outing and overnight stay.
In third place was Philip McMahon's team consisting of Philip McMahon, Brendan McClarey, Jimmy Murray and Robert Kane. They won a sponsored fourball and evening meal in the Slieve Russell Hotel and Country Club, Ballyconnell.
The team representing Tom Downes came in fourth - Tom Downes, Tom Canning, Michael Hanley and Adrian McCabe. The won sponsored vouchers to the Hotel Kilmore, Dublin Road, Cavan.
The final prize went to the team representing The Ripley Court Hotel in Talbot Street, Dublin represented by Gabriel Kelly, Ralph Rogers, Seamus Smith and Paddy Maguire. They won some valuable golf equipment.
At the event an auction took place for a trip for two to Old Trafford for one of Manchester Utd's. group games in the Champions League. After some brisk bids the winner was Tony Finlay of Tony Finlay Fabric, Main St., Cavan. This prize was kindly sponsored by Anthony Wharton, Crossdoney of Wharton's Travel.
After the prizegiving, well-known Cavan singer now resident in Canada, Jim Simpson sang a number of the songs from the CD which he recorded some months ago. John Crotty also chimed in with his inimitable repertoire.
Cavan Gaels Golf Classic committee would like to thank all those who fielded teams in the event once again this year; those who sponsored tees; those who sponsored prizes, and those who worked hard on the day to ensure the smooth-running of the event especially Terry Smith, Phil Murray, the two Reilly brothers, Johnny Farrelly and his cohorts. Thanks also to John Crotty for his powerpoint presentation of all the teams and tee sponsors which ran all day in the Clubhouse.
