Division 2 Reserve Championship
Drumalee 2-22 Cornafean 5-11
This Reserve Championship game between Cornafean and Drumalee took place on Sunday last in Drumalee and proved to be an enjoyable encounter between two evenly matched teams. The Reds led by 6 points as the game entered the last quarter but Drumalee finished stronger scoring 1-6 to Cornafean's 0-2 to snatch victory on the long whistle by 2 pts. Cornafean after a sluggish start grew into the game and forwards David Egan, Wayne Johnson, Peter Doyle and James MCGahern found their shooting boots with some great score and Peter Doyle's and Cornafean's third goal just prior to half time was worth the admission fee alone.
Half Time Reds 3-6 Drumalee 1-8
A Wayne Johnson goal after the break kick started the Reds second half but Drumalee were remaining in touch and kicked the next 5 pts. As the end of the third quarter approached David Egan kicked two points and J. McGahern scored a great goal after a great team move but the home side who were growing in confidence and running at the Reds defence kicked the final two points of the third quarter resulting in the score been Reds 5-9 to Drumalee's 1-15 with fifteen minutes to play.
The home team played their best football in the last quarter as the Reds tired and lost their way somewhat. Cornfean were down to 11 players as the clock ticked down following a black and two yellow cards and Drumalee turned the screw with some great points and a late goal fisted to the net in the dying moments. Cornafean's 2 points in the last quarter of the game came from James McGahern an Peter Doyle. Hard luck to the Reserve Reds and best of luck to the players and management in the next round of the Reserve Championship.
