Cornafean U9s Jubilant in Lacken Blitz
Cornafean U9s finished a very successful season with a convincing win in the well organised Lacken Celtic GAA Blitz. Six teams across two Groups battled it out for the U9 Cup and Shield. First up for Cornafean was a lively encounter with Gowna. The evenly matched sides traded points with determined Cornafean digging deep to edge out a single point win in the closing minutes of the game. Next up Arva, who finished strongly putting Coranfean's early lead under pressure, but on the final whistle it was Cornafean's early dominance that secured the win and put them on top of Group 2. Distant visitors St. Micheals(Galway) emerged as victors of Group 1 ahead of Lacken and Mullahoran to meet Cornafean in the final. A strong start for both sides left the teams level at half-time. Pressure in the middle of the field by St. Micheals wasn't enough to knock the red sides' determination to defend the Cup. A strong bench combined with impressive displays of teamwork and ball handling skills ensured Cornafean U9s lifted the Cup for the second year running.
U17 Ladies Championship
Well done to the girls on their good victory over Cavan Gaels which now leaves them in the semi final of the Championship.
U13 Boys
Recorded a good victory over Templeport on Sunday afternoon in Paric Naomh Fionnan, Cornafean 5-12 Templeport 4-11
Next up for the boys is away match this weekend against Munterconnaught Mac Finns and we wish them well.
County Final Day
Well done to the Cavan Co. Board and both teams Catlerahan and Crosserlough on serving up a very enjoyable County Final day on Sunday last in a resplendent Kingspan Breffni Park. Many people believe it was the best Cavan final in years with the experienced Castlerahan team just edging out the youthful Crosserlough lads. Well done to the Ballyduff men and no doubt Crosserlough will be back and are a team with a very bright future ahead of them.
Division 2 Reserve Champoinship
Over the weekend Ballinagh qualified in their Semi final and will now play Cornafean Reserves in the Division 2 Championship final. We look forward to this final where the near neighbours will meet but as yet going to press a final date or venue has not been fixed.
