Downes to take Cavan U20 reins

Cavan's Kevin Downes

Former Cavan Gaels forward Kevin Downes is set to be ratified as Cavan's new U20 football manager.

The Anglo-Celt reports that the 34-year-old is expected to be appointed by the county board in the coming weeks.

The All-Ireland U20 football championship commences for the first time in 2018, replacing the U21 competition, and Cavan are set to have a relatively strong squad, backboned by the minor side which reached the All-Ireland MFC semi-finals this past August.

Former Kingscourt and Mullahoran manager Niall Lynch managed the county's U21s for the past two seasons but decided not to put his name forward for the U20 post.
