Our flagship team, our senior footballers played an ACFL division 3 match at home on Sunday 23rd June against Shercock. With an early throw in of 11am to accommodate the exciting Down Donegal encounter in Breifne the action was hot and heavy throughout. The match finished on a scoreline of Ballymachugh 1 9 Shercock 0 9. This was a tremendous two points for the Hughs in a match where we played for the majority with 14 men. Awesome stuff lads!
Our reserve X5, a talented crew of youth and some not so young were in action in the first round of the reserve C championship on Friday night June 21st in Shercock. Led by the evergreen Padraig Sheridan, the final score read Ballymachugh 1 8 Shercock 1 5. Played in testing wet and windy conditions the Hughs were level at half time with a Kerrigan point reaching parity. The second half was nip and tuck and late scores from Goldrick Kieran and McFarlane sealed the deal. Round two is imminent.
Bertha Kiernan's sterling son James was awarded for his recent heavy scoring exploits with selection on the Munterconnacht GFC Football all-stars team of the month for May at wing forward.
Ballymachugh underage summer camp begins on Monday July 1st and will run for 5 days from 10.00 to 2pm. The nominal fee can be paid on the Monday morning to Norine Mulligan and Peter Mulligan.
Our under 8 footballers took part in a blitz in Kingspan Breifne Park on Saturday June 22nd. The children played matches against Drung, Killygarry and Butlersbridge in a 10 a side blitz format. The children had a brilliant time despite the incessant wet showers. Well done all.
The under 14 ladies footballers were defeated by Baileboro in the semi-final last Monday. The girls battled gamely til the death and gave their all. Training will continue in advance of the championship. Under 13 ladies have commenced their training also.
Our under 12 boys footballers had a busy week with no less than three games pencilled in for completion. The lads got the week off to a tremendous start dismissing neighbours Mullahoran in a tight intense finish. Well done lads. The other fixtures were both away in Kingscourt and Killinkere. The Kingscourt affair was rather one sided with our lads in complete control. Well done boys and it is vital that all players keep up the training attendance as we approach summer holidays.
Ballynarry school girls played their football final of Division 2 in Lavey on Thursday June 20th. In blistering conditions the girls put on an exhibition of controlled passing, resolute defending and accurate finishing. Ahead at the interval a strong finish saw the title return for an amazing fourth year in a row to Ballynarry. The final score read Ballynarry 3 9 Killinkere 3 2. Chloe Goldrick was a deserving player of the match and all panel members contributed over the season. Well done. A big thank you to Gary & Sharon Goldrick for refreshments served afterwards in the clubrooms plus all parents who helped prepare an enjoyable celebration banquet.
Our footballing ladies under the new management of crafty Paddy Baxter and enthusiastic senior star Kieran Goldrick are training away. They face off in the Intermediate championship first round on Sunday June 30th in Ballyheelan against the might of two parishes combined Denn and Castlerahan. Throw in is at 12 and support is paramount.
Best wishes to our under 16 county football lady stars Lucy, Caoimhe, Eilish and Kelda who are all part of the Cavan ladies squad who meet Donegal on Tuesday in the championship. We also wish Pat's dynamos best wishes Aoibhín and Sheana Kiernan who are part of the Cavan senior ladies team. They meet Down in Iniskeen on Sunday 23rd June.
Well done to all who raised money and walked for underage hurling equipment on Saturday morning. An enjoyable route indeed!
