The cost of running the Mayo senior football team increased by nearly €170,000 this year.

Delegates were informed at yesterday's county convention in Breaffy House Hotel that spending on James Horan's men was up from €480,334 in 2012 to €646,440 this year. The sharp rise has been attributed to the team holiday in Miami last January, which cost around €156,000.

Travelling expenses were over €405,000, compared to just under €271,000 last year, while catering and medical expenses also increased.

By contrast, Mayo's All-Ireland winning minor team had expenses of just over €100,000, while the county's hurling teams accrued expenses of €90,000.

Treasurer PJ Lambe revealed that total income was €2,118,858, up €170,000 from 2012. The closing balance of the county board is €13,233,502.
