Carlow captain Trevor O'Reilly believes that they have come on leaps and bounds since Anthony Rainbow took over as manager.

Rainbow was only appointed as manager of the side towards the end of last year, but he has already made a huge impression on the players, according to O'Reilly.

Last Sunday, Carlow were in competitive action for the first time this year when Dublin defeated them in the O'Byrne Cup, but O'Reilly stressed to the Carlow Nationalist that they were certainly heading in the right direction.

"We have been training extremely hard since we went back in the middle of November," said O'Reilly. "Anthony has brought us on in leaps and bounds from Luke (Dempsey) who did trojan work. We are doing a lot fitness and I think it paid off against Dublin.

"They are a division 1 team and it is Dublin. The pace of the game was a bit quicker. We grew into the game and got a lot of confidence from it. We will take positives from this game. Dublin are a great team and to even look at the way they played, we will take from it."
