McHugh blasts 'arrogant' Sludden

July 14, 2010
Donegal legend Martin McHugh has criticised under-fire referee Martin Sludden for not consulting with his umpires in awarding Meath their controversial winning goal in last Sunday's Leinster football final.

Writing in the Irish Daily Star, McHugh said: "Looking back at the video, I thought the referee was arrogant and it fuelled the situation.

"He didn't consult with his umpires over the Joe Sheridan incident, just telling one of them to raise the green flag. And going off the field, Sludden didn't look as if he wanted protection, staying out on the pitch to book Louth players.

"He looked like he was ready to take on any fan who approached him and it took a garda to run him off the field in the end."
