Kilanerin ended an 18-year wait for Wexford senior football championship glory after defeating St Martin’s by 1-15 to 0-12 at Chadwicks Wexford Park this afternoon.

Sean Hughes, Niall Hughes and Paraic Hughes all landed two-pointers as Kilanerin overturned a second-half deficit to seize control of the decider.

St Martin’s remained in contention through Jake Firman and Barry O’Connor, narrowing the gap to a single point at 0-11 to 0-10.

The turning point came when substitute Vincent Higgins found the net in the 52nd minute after good work from Micheál McGonigle and Niall Hughes.

Further scores from Paraic Hughes, Dean O’Toole, Cian Hughes and Sean Forde sealed Kilanerin’s first SFC triumph in the Model County since 2008.
