A strong second-half display propelled Inagh-Kilnamona to a 2-18 to 1-14 win against Kilmaley in the Clare senior hurling championship final in Ennis this afternoon, securing the Canon Hamilton Cup for the first time since the clubs merged in 2008.
County men Aidan McCarthy and Fred Hegarty led the charge for the victors, both finishing with 1-5, while David Fitzgerald contributed five points as Inagh-Kilnamona took control after the break.
Kilmaley, who were chasing their first county title since 2004, held a one-point advantage at half-time despite playing against the breeze. However, Inagh-Kilnamona raised their performance in the second-half and gradually pulled clear.
Hegarty capped an outstanding individual display with a stoppage-time goal to put the result beyond doubt and seal a memorable championship triumph.
The victory marks a landmark feat for Inagh-Kilnamona, bringing senior hurling glory to the club partnership for the first time.
