Clonguish ended a 17-year wait for Longford SFC glory with an emphatic 1-20 to 1-6 victory over reigning champions Emmet Og Killoe at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park this afternoon.
Michael Flynn was the star of the show, scoring 1-9 as Clonguish secured their 13th county title with a commanding performance.
Killoe made a flying start through Gavin Farrelly’s early goal, but Clonguish responded brilliantly, registering 10 points in succession to take control. They led 0-10 to 1-2 at half-time despite losing Matthew Flynn to injury.
Clonguish continued to dominate after the restart, with Flynn landing two superb two-pointers before adding a late goal to cap a memorable individual display.
James Hagan also impressed with five points as Dominic Corrigan’s side proved too strong for the defending champions, winning out by 14 in the end to secure their club's first SFC success since 2009.
