Gowna cruised into their fifth Cavan senior football championship final in six years after inflicting a 2-18 to 1-6 defeat on Crosserlough at Kingspan Breffni this evening.
Vinny Corey’s side struck twice inside the opening 18 minutes through Daire Madden and Oisín Pierson to take control against their rivals, with points from Ryan Donohoe, captain Conor Brady, Tiarnan Madden and Seanie Smith helping them into a commanding 2-10 to 0-2 half-time lead.
Crosserlough managed just one point through James Smith during the opening 29 minutes, and their task became even tougher when ace attacker Paddy Lynch was shown a red card before the break.
Brandon Boylan opened the second-half scoring with a two-point free for the trailers, but points from Conor Casey and Donohoe, followed by scores from Cian Madden and Brady, stretched Gowna’s advantage to 18 points.
Crosserlough grabbed a late consolation goal through Oran Rehill, but there was no way back as Ryan McGahern and Cian Madden rounded off Gowna’s scoring to secure a 15-point victory.
Gowna now await the winners of tomorrow evening’s other semi-final between holders Kingscourt Stars and Cuchulainns, which throws in at 6.30pm at Kingspan Breffni.
