Donegal SFC: Ó Baoill nails winning two-pointer for Gaoth Dobhair

Gaoth Dobhair took their place in the quarter-finals of this year’s Donegal senior football championship as Daire Ó Baoill’s injury-time strike ousted Killybegs.

The contest at Fintra went right down to the wire and Hugh McFadden’s late free seemed to have won it for the hosts only for fellow county ace Ó Baoill to land a ridiculous winner for last year’s beaten finalists two minutes into added time.

The result keeps Gaoth Dobhair very much on track, with a dozen teams still standing but only four through to the last eight, while Killybegs will now face Ardara in a relegation semi-final.

Holders Naomh Conaill and their predecessors St Eunan’s are also through to the round of eight after beating Kilcar and St Michael’s respectively, while Dungloe’s draw with Termon secured them a top four spot in the final league standings and a quarter-final place.

In the preliminary quarter-finals next weekend, which involve the teams that finished from fifth to twelfth, Four Masters face St Michael’s, Kilcar host neighbours Naomh Columba, Glenswilly take on Termon in another derby and MacCumhaills meet Downings as they did twelve months ago.
