Donegal moved two points clear at the top of the Allianz Football League Division 1 table thanks to a convincing 1-19 to 0-14 victory over Mayo in Letterkenny this afternoon.

Conor O’Donnell scored the game’s only goal 10 minutes into the second-half as the Ulster champions recorded their third straight win of the campaign by handing the Westerners their first defeat.

The scores of Conor McCahill, Oisin Gallen and O’Donnell helped the home side towards a 0-11 to 0-5 lead at the break, with Mayo seeing early second-half scores from Conor Loftus and Darragh Beirne wiped out by Ryan McHugh’s two-pointer.

Gallen made it double score (0-14 to 0-7) shortly afterwards and O’Donnell’s goal would leave Andy Moran’s men with a mountain to try and climb.

Finbarr Roarty and McCahill landed points either side of Jim McGuinness introducing Michael Murphy to the fray, with the visitors landing the next three points via Ryan O’Donoghue (free), Sam Callinan and Hession to leave themselves in with an outside chance for the closing 15 minutes.

Fergal Boland and O’Donoghue would off the Mayo tally ahead of Ciaran Moore kicking Donegal’s last score which put a seal on his team’s eight-point victory in this top of the table clash.
