Fresh from leading Dingle to All-Ireland club SFC glory last Sunday, Paul Geaney has been named as the new Kerry captain for the 2026.

His selection, which was widely expected after he was nominated by his club, was announced at a county board meeting last night. However, Geaney is unlikely to play any part in Kerry’s upcoming Allianz Football League defence after revealing last week that he plans on taking an extended break in order to get his body right. The long-serving forward had been hampered by a calf injury during Dingle's All-Ireland campaign.

It's expected that Gavin White, who skippered Kerry to Sam Maguire success last year, will continue as captain in the meantime.

Meanwhile, James O’Connor has been selected as Kerry’s new senior hurling captain after he was nominated by Abbeydorney.
