This year’s Hurling for Cancer Research charity match raised a record €215,690.
Staged on August 18 last in Netwatch Cullen Park, the Centra-backed event is an annual fundraiser, gathering an array of incredible sportspeople, past and present, and celebrities to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society. Now in its 13th year, it has raised almost €1.9 million to date.
Racing legends and co-founders of Hurling for Cancer Research Jim Bolger and Davy Russell said: “This event simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of so many who work tirelessly behind the scenes and come together on the pitch to deliver a night to remember.
“To the hurlers and jockeys, the wider GAA and horse racing communities, the volunteers on the night, those who’ve been working for months to bring it all together we thank you. We’re especially grateful to the Gardaí, the Order of Malta, and Carlow County Council for helping keep everyone safe, to Cúl Sliotars for the team kit, TG4 who have been instrumental to making this event a huge success and to Centra for proudly coming on board this year. This event continues to show the power of sport and community united for a cause that touches so many lives.”
Tickets for the 2026 match, taking place on August 24th, are now available to purchase in selected Centra and SuperValu stores, and at www.hurlingforcancer.ie. They make an ideal stocking filler for any hurling fan this festive season.
