Limerick came through a thrilling battle with Wexford this afternoon to put their name in the hat for tomorrow morning’s Tailteann Cup semi-final draw.
Jimmy Lee’s men recorded a Limerick 4-21 to 2-19 victory at the TUS Gaelic Grounds to join Wicklow, Kildare and Fermanagh in the last four of the second-tier competition.
The opening stages were all Wexford as they ran up a 0-5 to 0-0 lead, but the hosts would hit the next five points with James Naughton (0-9) to the fore before Cillian Fahy hammered in their first goal to surge them ahead.
Danny Neville found the net for the Division 4 champions after that and they’d goal again through Fahy prior to Sean Nolan raising a green flag at the other end for the Slaneysiders, leaving it all square at the break (3-8 to 1-14).
Limerick made the better restart to put themselves four in front, but a Mark Rossiter goal brought Wexford straight back into it again before Neville registered his second goal to help the Treaty men on their way to an eight-point win in the end.
