Roscommon are top of Group 3 with a game to go in the All-Ireland SFC round-robin stage after seeing off Sligo by 1-21 to 1-11 at Dr Hyde Park this afternoon.

After their drawn encounter with Dublin seven days ago, the Rossies moved through the gears in this Connacht derby by building a 0-8 to 0-6 half-time lead and increasing it to five a dozen minutes into the second-half.

Sligo responded with a well-taken Alan Reilly goal in the 49th minute but back-to-back points from Diarmuid Murtagh (free) and Enda Smith would soften that blow for the hosts before Dylan Ruane hammered a shot to the Yeats men’s net.

Donie Smith’s point made it 1-17 to 1-9 with five minutes left in normal time, as Davy Burke’s men would win out by 10 points in the end to inflict Sligo with their first loss of the group stage after having drawn with Kildare in the opening round.
