Seamus Callanan's participation in Tipperary's Munster SHC opener against Clare next month is in doubt after he suffered a medial ligament knee injury during last Saturday night’s Allianz League win over Waterford.

The former Hurler of the Year is expected to be sidelined for between six and eight weeks, which leaves him facing a race against time to be fit for the showdown with the Banner in Cusack Park on April 23. Callanan will definitely miss the remainder of the Allianz League campaign, with Tipp having already qualified for the Division 1 semi-final.

Tipperary GAA said in a statement last night: “Tipperary Senior Hurling manager Liam Cahill has confirmed that Séamus Callanan sustained medial knee ligament damage in last Saturday’s win over Waterford and will be out for a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks.”
