All-conquering Naas wrote themselves into the history books this afternoon when they came from behind to beat Celbridge 1-16 to 1-13 - winning three consecutive Kildare senior hurling championship titles.

After claiming the football crown for the first time in 31 years last weekend, the county town completed the second leg of a remarkable double in impressive fashion at St Conleth's Park.

Naas looked in trouble when they trailed by 0-1 to 1-4 on 18 minutes after Conor Treacy's early goal had Celbridge in the driving seat, but a trio of long-range points from Jack Sheridan left them just three adrift, 0-8 to 1-8, at half-time.

Celbridge fell behind for the first time when Simon Lacey goaled in the 52nd minute and further points from Sheridan, who finished with 0-12 to his name, and Gerry Keegan saw the Tom Carew Cup holders over the line in front.

There was also a championship double in the one day for Naas after their minor hurlers defeated Maynooth 0-25 to 2-16 in the curtain-raiser.
