Patrick Hurney was the star of the show as Ballinacourty defeated holders Rathgormack by 0-13 to 0-10 in Saturday's Covid-delayed 2020 Waterford SFC final.

The 35-year-old rolled back the years at Walsh Park by scoring eight points, including three from play, as Ballinacourty lifted the Conway Cup for the first time since 2013 and seventh time in all.

Jason Curry had Rathgormack ahead for the only time in the 19th minute before three points from Hurney and another from Sean Whelan Barrett propelled the winners into a 0-7 to 0-5 half-time lead.

The defending champions regained parity after the restart through scores from Curry and Conor Murray, but Hurney edged Ballinacourty back in front before goalkeeper Stephen Enright came to their rescue with a stunning save to deny Curry.

That proved decisive as Hurney went on to seal victory for the West Waterford men with his eighth point in the fourth minute of stoppage-time.
