Tyrone's Padraig Hampsey tackles Gearoid McKiernan of Cavan

Tyrone defender Padraig Hampsey envisages “a tough battle” when the Red Hands take on Cavan in the quarter-finals of the Ulster championship in a little over two months’ time.

Tyrone’s 2021 campaign under new managers Fergal Logan and Brian Dooher starts on Saturday week when they welcome Donegal to Healy Park for the first round of the Allianz Football League.

Hampsey says they’ll be looking to make their home ground “a fortress” this season with reigning Ulster champions Cavan also set to visit the Omagh venue on the weekend of July 10/11.

“It’ll be a tough battle, they’re defending champions and that’s fully deserved as they were great in last year’s championship,” he is quoted saying on ulsterherald.com.

“They had some excellent U21 teams, and the players who came through those teams will still be around for the next number of years.

“They’ve plenty of grit as well, they showed great determination throughout their campaign. Not only do they have what it takes physically but they’ve plenty of good footballers in the full-forward line so they’ll be a tough team to beat.”
