Cormac Boyle has been appointed captain of the Westmeath senior hurlers for the 2021 season.

The former dual star from Raharney will lead the Lake County for the first time when they take on Galway in the first round of the Allianz Hurling League at TEG Cusack Park next Saturday. One of Westmeath's most consistent performers over the last ten years, Boyle replaces Castletown-Geoghegan's Aonghus Clarke in the role.

Davy Glennon is expected to make his long-awaited debut for Westmeath against his former county in the inter-county season opener having sat out last year's Joe McDonagh Cup campaign after his transfer missed the required deadline.
