Galway manager Padraic Joyce has been hit by the news that All-Star forward Ian Burke has withdrawn from the squad for the foreseeable future.
The Tribesmen will be without the four-time Corofin All-Ireland club SFC winner for the 2021 season following his decision to opt out of the inter-county scene in the wake of last November's Connacht SFC final defeat to Mayo.
Burke made his debut for Galway in the 2017 All-Ireland qualifier against Donegal and has been an ever-present in the full-forward line since. In his second year, he became Galway's first football All-Star in 15 years.
Joyce must also plan without experienced defender Gareth Bradshaw who announced his retirement this week.
