Skehill calls time on Galway career

Galway goalkeeper James Skehill has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.

Having made his senior debut in 2007, Skehill won three Leinster titles with the Tribesmen along with two National Leagues and an All-Ireland SHC crown.

The Cappataggle clubman was understudy to Colm Callanan when Galway defeated Waterford in 2017 to capture a first Liam MacCarthy Cup in 29 long years.

He also featured in his county’s All-Ireland final defeats of 2012 and 2018 to Kilkenny and Limerick, respectively.

"After 14 years playing with Galway, I'd like to announce my retirement from inter-county hurling," he tweeted yesterday.

"A huge thank you to my wife Grace, my family, friends and teammates who supported me over the years. It was a huge honour to play for my county. Thank you."
