Down 1-13
Derry 0-13
Down moved into the semi-finals of the Christy Ring Cup by edging Derry in this afternoon’s Round 2A clash in Ballycran.
A late Donal Hughes goal proved crucial for the hosts as they secured the victory with injury-time points from Paul Sheehan (2) and Hughes.
The Mourne men’s strong start via the frees of Oisin McManus helped them to carry a 0-7 to 0-5 lead at the break, but Derry would be level within two minutes of the restart.
Points from Mark Craig and Conor Kelly squared things up prior to Cormac O’Doherty firing the Oak Leafers in front in the 42nd minute.
Mark McGuigan and O’Doherty (2) helped open up a three-point gap for the visitors and they looked the more likely side down the home stretch until their opponents goaled through Hughes a minute from injury-time.
From there, the momentum was with Down as Sheehan, Hughes and centre-back Conor Woods fired over the scores that ensured progression through to the last four.
