The Galway GAA community has been plunged into mourning with the death of Francis Stockwell.
Son of Galway football legend and 1956 All-Ireland SFC winner Frank who formed one half of the famous "Terrible Twins", along with his great friend Sean Purcell, Francis followed in his father's footsteps by lining out as a prolific scoring forward on Tuam Stars and Galway teams.
Francis won SFC, U21 and MFC titles with the Stars during a successful playing career and was part of the last Galway side to lift the All-Ireland JFC title in 1985. 'Stocky' also played on the St Jarlath's College team that claimed the 1978 Hogan Cup title and was an accomplished soccer player, representing Tuam Celtic and the Galway League in the Oscar Traynor Cup.
He later became caretaker at St Jarlath's College and helped the famous Tuam nursery to their 12th Hogan Cup title as part of the management team under the late Fr Oliver Hughes.
