Canon Hamilton Cup holders Sixmilebridge.

Alex Morey's haul of 0-13 helped Sixmilebridge make a winning start to their defence of the Canon Hamilton Cup in yesterday's Clare SHC opener versus Eire Og at Cusack Park.

Tim Crowe's champions, who are also coached by Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald, were 0-8 to 0-5 clear at half time, thanks mainly to the accurate free taking of full forward Morey.

Sixmilebridge were reduced to 14-men on the resumption after Alan Mulready received a straight red card but Eire Og failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage as they fell to a 0-17 to 0-12 defeat.

In the later throw-in at the county grounds, Cratloe struck 2-6 without reply midway through the first half, as they defeated Kilmaley by 3-15 to 2-11.

Dylan Frawley and Rory Hayes both grabbed goals for Wolfe Tones Shannon in their 4-19 to 0-16 dismantling of Clarecastle.

O'Callaghans Mills and Feakle also booked their places in the second round with wins over Broadford and Whitegate, respectively.

Ballyea and Crusheen will meet at Cusack Park this afternoon in the final game of the first round.
