It wasn’t off the ground that young Armagh sharpshooter Rian O’Neill licked his talent for gaelic football.
His father Gareth represented Armagh and Louth at inter-county level while his mother Dora is a member of the famed McConville family of Crossmaglen.
Uncle Oisin McConville is always on hand to offer him a bit of advice…
“He’d be giving me bits of advice, maybe that if I only scored a few points – he’d be asking if I was on for 15 minutes or something!” the 21-year-old quipped when speaking to the Irish Daily Star at the launch of McKeever Sports’ official club and county GAA licence yesterday.
“That’s the sort of stuff he’d be saying."
He added: “No, it’s great to have somebody like Oisin about. Obviously one of the best players that ever played the game.
“It’s great to just ask him stuff from time to time and just get his opinion.
“He is even managing me there at the minute with the college out in Dundalk.
“He’s good with that and understands you are playing with Armagh, he doesn’t put that much pressure on you.”
