Galway hurling supporters are breathing a sigh of relief after manager Shane O'Neill confirmed that the arm injury Joe Canning sustained against Limerick isn't serious.

The Galway talisman was treated by medics on the LIT Gaelic Grounds pitch before being replaced by Sean Bleahane midway through the second half of his side's 0-14 to 1-19 defeat to Limerick.

But speaking after making an unhappy return to his home city, O'Neill provided some good news on Canning, who missed a large chunk of last season after needing surgery on a hamstring injury he sustained in the Allianz League semi-final against Waterford.

“No, he’s fine. He got a bang in the nerve. He just couldn’t feel it there. He’s fine now. He put ice on the nerve there and he’ll be fine,” the Galway boss said.
