Goals from Joe Hagan and Daniel Mimnagh denied Jack O’Connor a win in his first competitive game as Kildare manager today.

Longford came away from Newbridge with a 2-14 to 0-14 O’Byrne Cup round 1 win under their belts.

Hagan’s 21st minute green flag separated the sides at the break (1-8 to 0-8) and Mimnagh applied the gloss to Padraic Davis’ team’s performance with a stoppage time goal.

O’Connor made two changes to the starting 15 that was announced on Thursday with Mark Donnellan replacing Aaron O’Neill between the posts and Padraig Nash coming in for Daniel Flynn in attack.

Neil Flynn top scored for the hosts with five converted frees while Nash and Jack Robinson both hit a brace of points from play.

Next up for the winners is a home clash with Carlow next Saturday while the Lilywhites will travel to Aughrim to take on Wicklow.
