Laois senior footballers have been hit with a blow following the news of captain Stephen Attride's departure to Australia.

LaoisToday.ie reports that the Knockbeg teacher has taken a year out to travel and won't be available to new county boss Mike Quirke in 2020.

Attride, who has skippered the O'Moore County since 2017, headed Down Under this week having deferred his departure date due to his club committments with Killeshin.

Meanwhile, his former club manager Maurice Browne has been added to Quirke's backroom team alongside Eoin Kearns and Maurice Horan.
