A member of the Wicklow GAA executive committee has resigned in the wake of John Evans’ departure as county senior football manager.

Leinster Council delegate Billy Byrne handed in a letter of resignation following the county board’s monthly meeting last week.

Byrne is annoyed over the handling of Evans’ resignation as he stated that the review meeting with the Kerry native was held with just three members of the executive committee and not the full committee.

The Avondale clubman added that there was a lack of support for Evans from the executive committee, although county board chairman Martin Fitzgerald has denied this.

“The whole issue of how the meeting with John Evans was held was outrageous,” Byrne told the Wicklow People.

“He was never brought in front of us as a full management, it was a private meeting. I only found out that meeting was happening at a Leinster Council meeting the previous Tuesday before it and I immediately sent a WhatsApp message to the management expressing my concerns that this meeting was taking place and there was no consultation with us as members of management with what was going on.”
