In 1992, Hughie Emerson famously starred for Laois in their surprise Leinster SFC first round victory over Meath while sitting his Leaving Cert.

Fast-forward 27 years and Sean O'Flynn is facing the same predicament against the Royals. Laois and Meath will face off for a place in this year's Leinster final at Croke Park on Sunday, June 9, which poses a dilemma for O'Flynn who will be in the middle of sitting his exams at Mountrath CS.

The Courtwood teenager acquitted himself well on his championship debut against Westmeath yesterday and will be expected to retain his place in the half back line for the provincial semi-final.

Yesterday's game was also notable for the return of Danny O'Reilly to championship action after he missed the O'Moore County's run to last year's Leinster final after the Graiguecullen man suffered a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain following a vicious and unprovoked late night assault in Carlow town in April 2018.
