A broken ankle will keep Monaghan midfielder Darren Hughes sidelined during this summer’s Ulster SFC.
The Farney County stalwart sustained the injury during Scotstown’s league clash with Ballybay on Sunday, with a scan subsequently confirming that he suffered a break.
The news comes as a massive blow to Monaghan as Hughes’ midfield foil from last season, Niall Kearns, is also a doubt for the championship, having sat out the entire calendar year to date after undergoing heart surgery.
Malachy O’Rourke’s men open their Anglo-Celt Cup campaign away to neighbours Cavan on Saturday, May 18th.
