Clare manager Colm Collins heaped praise on his players following their Houdini act against Tipperary.

The Banner came from behind to eke out a 3-15 to 1-19 win in Thurles which preserved their Allianz Football League Division 2 status at the expense of Cork.

"I made no secret of the fact that we wanted to be playing Division 2 football next year," he is quoted as saying in the Irish Daily Star.

"To play at the highest level is so important. All year long I felt we were a win away from things clicking. I have always felt we were playing good football, but weren't getting the results. Thankfully, with our backs to the wall, the result came out."

The Cratloe man added: "Going into the second half, they were five down and it wasn't looking good. But by god, they dug it out. Then they went down and dug it out again.

"I am so delighted because I think it is so important for Clare to play in Division 2."
