Cian Callan gets the better of Carlow's Tadhg Roche to blast in a Louth goal during the Leinster U20 FC

Carlow 5-11

Louth 3-15

Ross Dunphy scored a brace of goals as 14-man Carlow came from nine points down to pip Louth in a thrilling Leinster U20FC Group 3 encounter in Drogheda.

The Barrowsiders suffered a 1-10 to 2-19 defeat to Offaly in the opening round and looked to be facing another heavy defeat when goals from Leonard Gray, Sam Mulroy and Cian Callan propelled the hosts into a commanding 3-4 to 0-4 lead inside the first quarter. But Carlow hit back with a brace of quickfire goals to trail by just two points, 2-8 to 3-7, at the interval.

The visitors raised further green flags in the 33rd and 36th minutes to take the lead for the first time, 4-8 to 3-10, before Andrew Kehoe was sent off following an off-the-ball incident.

Louth appeared to have wrestled back control when points from Gerry Garland and Mulroy restored their lead, but Dunphy's second goal put the visitors 5-9 to 3-14 up before the outstanding Conor Crowley sealed the win with a superb late point.
