Westmeath manager Colin Kelly has revealed that they will be appealing the red card handed to defender Sam Duncan in the win over Derry last weekend.

The Lake County's good start to the NFL Division Three campaign was overshadowed slightly by a straight red given to Duncan during the second half of the clash.

Derry were reduced to 14 men soon after when James Kielt was dismissed, but Kelly is only concerned by his own player and admitted to the Westmeath Independent that they will be appealing.

"We're going to appeal," said Kelly. "You come in here, you can't really speak about referees; they've a difficult job to do. I just thought that at some times during the match, it was unbelievable."

Meanwhile, Kelly revealed that they may have to plan without midfielder Denis Corroon for the next few rounds of the league after he was rushed to hospital.

"We got a blow on the morning of the game, Dinny Corroon had to go into hospital with an appendix so it wasn't an easy morning for the lads and the way they responded, I thought was fantastic."
