The BBC has apologised to Derry GAA for referring to the Oak Leaf County's senior footballers as 'Londonderry' in a national football league round-up.

During a BBC Radio Ulster news bulletin at 6pm on Sunday evening, a presenter disclosed that there had been league defeats for Tyrone, Donegal, Monaghan and Londonderry.

Eve Rosato's erroneous report read: "Meanwhile, Ulster teams had a disappointing start in the opening games of the Allianz National League. Tyrone, Donegal, Monaghan and Londonderry all lost but there were wins for Fermanagh, Armagh, Antrim and Down and Slaughtneil's camogie team qualified for this year's All-Ireland final."

The gaff caused a flood of complaints from angry GAA fans. Derry County Board raised their concerns with senior management in the BBC on Monday morning and claim to have since received "both an apology and assurances that it will not happen again".

According to the BBC:"This was in error and was corrected as soon as possible and not repeated in any subsequent bulletin. We wouldn't comment on the number or nature of complaints."
