Seventeen-year-old Piaras Casey from St Mary’s GAC Granemore in Co. Armagh has been awarded the Translink Ulster GAA Young Volunteer of the Month award for September 2025.
The award is presented each month to young volunteers whose efforts best demonstrate the volunteering ethos and community spirit of the GAA.
While balancing the commitments of playing for the Granemore minor team and his A-Level studies, Piaras has devoted his time weekly over the past two years to coaching the club’s Under-12 boys’ team. His reliability, enthusiasm and willingness to help have made him an invaluable part of the coaching setup and a trusted figure among players and mentors alike.
Having completed his coaching qualifications this year, Piaras brings energy and preparation to every session; organising drills, supporting team development and guiding young players with patience and positivity.
Through his consistent volunteering, he has become an example of the club’s values of commitment, leadership and community spirit.
Presenting Piaras with his award, Ulster GAA President Michael Geoghegan said: “Piaras truly represents the spirit of dedication, teamwork, and volunteerism. He has consistently gone above and beyond to support Granemore St Mary’s, contributing his time and energy to developing our young players and strengthening the club community.
"Piaras’s commitment and positive influence have made a lasting impact, inspiring others to get involved and give back. I congratulate him and all the young nominees who continue to be shining examples of what the GAA stands for.”
