Cargin made their goals count in the opening round of their Antrim senior football championship title defence with victory over O’Donovan Rossa.

It finished 3-11 to 0-11 at Rossa Park, where the goals came from Eunan Quinn and Pat Shivers (2) for the Toome men whom have secured four of the last five SFC crowns in the Saffron County.

Shivers had set-up Quinn for the holders’ first goal after 19 minutes and the former then hammered in one himself to leave the half-time scoreline reading 2-6 to 0-4.

On 48 minutes it was Shivers that finished off a sweeping Cargin move to the net and, while the hosts came with a late push, Ronan Devlin’s men booked a comfortable opening win in the end.
