Nicky Rackard Cup: Roscommon and Donegal book final date

May 25, 2013

Roscommon hurling hope to have many more great days at Athleague pitch.
Roscommon and Donegal have powered through to the final of the 2013 Nicky Rackard Cup.

Both semi-finals were played in glorious sunshine this afternoon and Donegal advanced by virtue of a 5-12 to 2-9 victory over Monaghan in Letterkenny, while Roscommon hammered Tyrone by 3-28 to 0-14 at Athleague.

At Letterkenny, the plucky visitors showed tremendous resolve in the first half to take a narrow 2-5 to 1-5 advantage into the interval but Donegal took control upon the restart to repeat their emphatic league victory over the Farney men.

In the other semi-final, the Rossies looked home and hosed at the short whistle as they held a commanding ten-point lead, 2-13 to 0-9, with the goals coming from Gary Fallon and Robbie Fallon.

Shortly after the restart Gerry Fallon fired a penalty to the net to bring his personal tally for the day to 1-9 thus far, propelling the hosts into an unassailable 3-16 to 0-11 lead. They weren't going to let it slip from there!

Donegal and Roscommon will face off in the decider at Croke Park on Saturday, June 8th.
