Hurley banding

(Oldest Posts First)

What do the hurley makers actually use to band hurleys and where could i get some cos i plan to fix my own if i could get a hold of some?
It must be quite soft cos the hurley makers manage to staple through it?

Anyone fixing there own that would know?

Tis a bit of a job if you do it yourself and no doubt you'll destroy a few hurls before you get it right.... I know a few lads that use the metal stuff that holds crats (if that's what it called) of bricks together!

I think Hag is right, the stuff for holding bales of bricks together.

See the stuff you's mention, would you be able to send a staple through it with an air staple gun or would you need to pre punch it?

I would think prepunch and use small staples/nails as possible, I'd have a go on a few bad hurls first incase you ruin you goodun's. I think you'd be better off getting them done professionally if you can.

I wouldn't be an expert on this but I would think using an air gun would wreck the grain of the hurl, used to get a fellow years ago to fix mine think he used to do a lot of the the tipp and limerick hurlers repairs aswell and not an air-gun in sight.

Most repairers use an air stapler- tacks/ brads rarely used nowadays.

Certainly the few that ive seen have been using staplers, much faster and easier.

in my experience the staples will come loose after a while, so i either rip off the band or tack it back in with a few brads...
