I dont think Lar Corbett is deserving of hurler of the year, but man of the match in the final always is in with a good shout!

Personally I think JJ Delaney or Tommy Walsh should get it.

Brendan Maher for me Young hurler and hurler of the year double.... he was one of the few that even played well against cork.

But I doubt he'll get both.... I think lar will get it.

I actually think Corbett deserves it. And a close second would be Tony Browne. But Corbett winning it would not just be about the final. He was brilliant in the semi too and for much of Tipp's championship season he set the tone for the level of performance they achieved.

id say noel mcgrath is in with a shout for young hurler of the year, but id prefer brendan maher. lar defo for hurler of the year.

Perhaps my earlier post was indicating that many posters have only actually seen one game of hurling this year.

Noel McGrath had a good year, but the reality of life is that Antrim have at least two forwards who had BETTER years, Neil McManus and Liam Watson.

Mcmanus is big, strong, young with loads of hurling ability as well, but will always be able to win ball due to his physical attributes.

Watson is just a highly skilled hurler. Now Antrim, with little resources made the last six.

The above is simply to illustrate yet again the fact that we should not let one or two televised games dominate our thoughts on hurling.

To be honest the best I saw this year was Eddie Byrne of carlow, a colossus at centre half forward, whose height and strength puts him above young McGrath, because Byrne also has the touch.

But how many people actually saw Eddie playing this year?

Obviously Lar Corbett will win the award but that to me is the easy, popular choice.

Lar should have won it last year, so on that basis alone, he would be the most deserving winner this year. Probably Ireland's best hurler over the last two years.
