Erin go Bragh club news
December 21, 2009
Firstly, on behalf of the Executive Committee, I would like to
take this opportunity to wish everyone, parents and children
alike a peaceful Christmas and happy new year.
During 2009, Erin Go Bragh, CLG has continued to grow from
strength to strength. This is evidenced not only in the number
of juvenile teams fielding week in week out but also in the
large numbers of parents giving of their time to help out,
whether that be in a mentoring or other role. This is very much
appreciated and is the reason for our success.
The real success story for 2009 must surely be securing the
temporary dressing room facilities. The date for installation
(early January 2010) remains on target. It was very
encouraging to see such large numbers turn out to vote the
issue through at the recent EGM. The hard and unrelenting
work of the Chair, Cecil Stephens and his team in driving this
development forward in such a short space of time, is very
much appreciated.

Erin go Bragh sponsored walk - Saturday 05th December 2009
On Saturday December 5th, just over 250 Erin go Bragh club
members set out on the annual sponsored walk. This was the highest
number of starters ever. The Sponsored Walk Committee, lead by
Sean Flood had planned the event over many months. The route was
designed by Paul Crowe. He spent hours walking different routes
around Dublin 15 to make sure the walkers were pushed to their
limits. The other two members helping plan the route, Sean Flood
and John McCleod provided advice and support to Paul in a following
car, and the result was a well planned route through Manor Fields,
Hazelbury, Beechfield and back to Mary Mother of Hope National
School.
Niall O'Hara, Juvenile Chairman had done all the refreshment
planning and guide maps to ensure all members were able to start and
the finish this very difficult route.
It was a cold morning, but this did not deter the walkers from
completing this rewarding challenge. The first walker crossed the
finish line in an impressive 1.5 hours whilst the last walker finished
after 3 hours. Bearing in mind the difficult conditions these were
fantastic times!!!
John Kinsella, aided by Sinead Edgely organised a refreshments point
in the school hall but sadly forgot the cups for the tea! The rescue
vehicle was Sean Flood's Lada Riva which this year was driven by
Tash Flood as Sean was in the elite group of walkers and was busy
warming up.
Mairead McCleod helped out as the, Nursing Auxiliary/SFL
Auxiliary accompanied by the club masseur Dave Bradish. At the
end of the walk, members exchanged their sponsor form for a well
earned bottle of water and some popcorn.
All walkers deserve huge congratulations for completing the walk and
for working so hard to raise the money for Erin go Bragh; without
their enthusiasm and determination the event would not be the success
it was.
At the time of writing, we do not know the total amount, which will
be raised but we know that we have already overtaken last year's
total! What we do know is that it was yet another successful Erin go
Bragh fundraising event.
