John Andrews gone...

(Oldest Posts First)

Just like to thank John Andrews for all he's given to Meath hurling. He laid a good foundation for progress in his first year involved, and he got good support from Dempsey when he was chairman. Anyone who takes the job now will be ******* against the wind in my opinion. There's a few great men driving hurling on in this county but unfortunately there's as many or more who'd rather not have any hurling in the county. Its an awful shame.

Anyway, thanks John, your efforts haven't gone unnoticed.

P.S.....wonder if Boylan would be interested!

Any ideas who will take the position now. Who would be in the running, or who would even want it?

Martin Curran would be my choice after doing a good job with Kilmessan but don't know if he would be interested.

Andrews did well with very limited resources and little or no support from the county board. Unfortunately this year will go down as a major failure as it was a huge chance for us to win the Christy Ring.

I think the obvious choice is O Halloran from Kildalkey if Kildalkey were to agree as i understand he has committed for another year. Well done Chivers you gave it a fair crack but you cant communicate with your employers via the local rag.
Others mentioned were Johnny Gorry and Paddy Kelly who i dont think would get the backing of all the clubs and Martin Curran was there before. That said i would like to see a local given it a crack just like Chivers did.

He did a very good job, pity to see him go, and with Kilmessan winning the Inter Leinster, the future is looking bright for Meath hurling, and the next manager who comes in will have plenty to work with!

Im sure once the new manager is appointed (hopefully the process wont take as long as the football manager) he will be keen to carry out trials to find some new talent, which there is plenty of in the county, if they can get the required suport from the county board.

Good to see John Davis being nominated but don't know if he would come back. He did a lot of great work for Meath hurling and camogie in recent times.
