Ferncombe should be very close to the panel, probaly the best attacking half back in the county and always makes good use of the ball. Im surprised he is only comming into the frame now thought he might have got a run when keoghan was manager. Ronan Reilly wouldnt be far off either if he continues on the last performance. He is suppose to be very good at long range aswell cavan have nobody really apart from McCabe to take them, not sure if McCabe is playing with cavan next year.

Gary Ferncombe was called in to the panel 2 years but couldnt commit because he was studying over in Wolverhampton. He's back in Cavan for this year and should be an addition to Cavan.

The regional competition is a complete waste of time in the format it is in. There is no organisation to speak of. Having seen it first hand i can testify to that. Barely any players were turning up and of those that did a lot were hungover. The stories of there being 14 a side and 11 a side games are true, what does that say about our county as a whole? People are asked to come in, they say they will and then don't turn up! In addition to that the same people were being called in who have been on county panels in the past, what is the point in Sean brady or Martin reilly playing in it? We all know they are good players. It should be used to bring on talent all over the county. the only way this would happen is to have some sort of training regime in place where they could bring guys together who want to be there and train at a higher level than they can with their club team. There are lots of people who know they can't get on the County panel but would like this opportunity to improve as individuals.

Would it not make more sense to have every club send in 4 or 5 players to regional training. These lads would want to be there and want to learn. this way you would improve the standard of club football universally. These people would get better and this would hopefully rub off on their team mates. What was going on in the regional games recently was stupid. You had unknown guys going in and getting played out of position or ignored by the manager as they might not know them depending on what part of Cavan they were from along with established county players who didn't really want to be there. I was listening to Northern Sound and Peter Reilly was on it lauding the regional games at that rate of going i dread to think what the county team is going to be like this year.

I was at the final in Drumalee yesterday. It was a good open game of football, think it finished 4-10 to 3-9 to East Cavan Gaels. Anton O'Reilly and James Clarke were good for them, Philip Kermath (selector) had to start corner forward because no of the Castlerahan boys showed. Ronan O'Reilly from kildallan was best for West Cavan.

its amazing the poor response to the regional games, about 10-15 years ago there were regional games also played in the winter time, the best 4 or 5 from every club were involved, no chance of any player not turning up, big crowds even went to the games.
Some difference now, THIS IS THE REASON THAT CAVAN FOOTBALL IS IN THE STATE ITS IN......LACK OF INTEREST AND COMMITMENT FROM CLUB PLAYERS
drink is a big cause but not the main one as there was as much drink around then, players have no interest...the celtic tiger cubs, maybe after a few years of recession players will start showing pride and commitment in their club and county

What about this lad that scored 3-1 for west cavan, never heard of him, Sean Mcwenney his name is i think. only read the report in the post so i could be wrong but it seems like good scoring. This Reilly lad too must be vey close to a call up from Kildallen and James Clarke from Killinkere
