All-Ireland Champions
Congratulations to the Clare senior hurling team on their magnificent win over Cork in Croke Park last Saturday evening. This was the just reward for all the work the players and management have put in over the past few years.
The team, led by The Tulla Pipe Band, stopped off in Sixmilebridge on Sunday evening with the Liam McCarthy cup as part of the homecoming celebrations with a huge crowd coming out from not just the 'Bridge but all over the county to show their appreciation for the new champions. The local contingent involved in the success, Davy Fitzgerald, Seadna Morey, Derek Fahy, Jamie Shanahan, Dr Padraig Quinn (team medic), Mike Corry, Mike Deasy (statistical team) and county secretary Pat Fitzgerald were all introduced to the crowd.
Club chairman Paddy Meehan, deputy mayor Cllr John Crowe and of course the team manager Davy Fitzgerald all made speeches on the evening with Syl O'Connor as ever a capable MC.
Musical entertainment was provided by local man Pat Hayes, Meelick duo Oisin Hickey and Eanna Mulvihil ('Banner Bound') and Noel McInerney from Killaloe ('The Banner's Road to Croker') with a large number of club officials helping with stewarding. Later that evening a joint homecoming with the U21's was held on Ennis with Seadna Morey, Jamie Shanahan, Kevin Lynch, Noel Purcell and Pa Sheehan all part of the U21 panel that defeated Antrim a few weeks ago.
