Wallace does not ant golden opportunity wasted

July 18, 2008
Philip Wallace is one of the veterans of this Wexford senior football team and he has often made his views known that the county has had a tendency to 'let golden opportunities of achieving progress escape them by sulking over defeats in Leinster semi-finals, an attitude that he says angers him. "Certainly after getting to this stage, we have to start thinking - and hope everyone is on the same page - about All-Ireland semi-finals. That is the sort of stage we're at now, and the further we go in the championship, the more we meet these so called 'big teams,' only to realise that they are all very beatable," the teacher in Terenure College says. Wallace has represented his county since 1997 and he is delighted how the set-up has evolved in those years. The factors that he sees as contributing to greater belief in the side is firstly that arrival of Jason Ryan and the interest that players have in representing Wexford at football.
